| When it is not being used
for exhibitions the space is used as my photographic
studio and so has very few obstructions making it easy
to circulate around and view the photographs. There
is approximately 30 metres of unobstructed wall space
available and the aim is to carefully present work in
a gallery style so that each work can be seen straight-on
at approximately eye-level and in appropriate lighting
conditions.
I originally opened the house with the idea of using
it as an outlet to sell my work but I now find that
getting feedback from the public is just as important.
I find it a common complaint amongst photographers that
they find it very difficult to judge the quality of
their own work because once basic techniques are mastered,
so that pictures are correctly focused and exposed,
the quality of the work in terms of composition and
pictorial content becomes very subjective
I find the comments from impartial festival-goers to
be one of the best indicators of the various strengths
and weaknesses of my own photography and that of the
other photographers on show and also a constant source
of inspiration for new ideas.
