I had considered
the idea before – I think most artists would admit
that the idea has crossed their mind, however fleetingly
- but there was one major fly in the ointment: my partner.
It is true to say that he was less than keen and given
the inconvenience we knew that staging an Open House would
cause I can’t say I blamed him.
Thus began – on my part - a new, surreptitious campaign
on the virtues of open houses, art in the community and
the challenges of an artistic vocation – or nagging,
if you want to call it that.
Finally, my partner saw the validity of my arguments -
caved, I’ve heard it called - and the ‘open
house’ idea was pencilled in on the calendar.
Now, having got the green light from my partner I had
to decide what it was I wanted from my house and just
exactly what types of art I wanted in it.
I’ve always liked the idea of an open house having
an ‘identity’ - like the ‘Dragonfly’
house on Ditchling Rise - and I wanted my house to be
both recognisable and memorable. continue back
