I discovered body painting while I was
training as a
make-up artist at college. It was one of the elements
of the course and the first time I did it I loved it.
The first person I painted was a pregnant friend and
I painted a sunflower on her belly. This image works
well on pregnant women because the shape complements
their curves.
On completing the job, I realised how few ways there
were of celebrating the pregnant body in an artistic
yet modest way.
With body painting, it’s not just the painting
I enjoy but the whole creative process - from thinking
up a design to suit the individual to collaborating
with the photographer.
I enjoy being able to give someone an everlasting memory
of their pregnancy and offering them something utterly
unique and relaxing during the last few stages of pregnancy.
Pregnant women are so free and proud - for some it’s
taken years for them to get pregnant, whilst for others
they may never be pregnant again so it’s a very
special time. I have a studio where I like to work and
always encourage the client to come there - less distractions,
more relaxing and no worries about getting paint on
their carpet!
