It’s hard, very hard,
to shut up and let it happen. When a painting is finished
it may be possible to read it in an intellectual sense
but that’s up to the viewer, I don’t care.
Psycho-babblers will always have something to say but
usually they’re very wide of the mark. They’ll
attribute this or that to some event in life but the artist,
well he or she will have had a purely visual reason for
much of the content. Psycho-babble, intellectual rubbish,
emperor’s new clothes? Give me honesty of experience,
a true sense of excitement, doing without ‘reason’.
It’s very hard to do. I have tried, that’s
all I can say. I know I’ve made some ground, I hope
you can sense it.
