I find I need to work through the ‘icky’ stages of painting at the beginning till I hit my flow - then things start to become exciting. Perseverance is important.
I am also exploring going back into illustration. I used to be an illustrator in London. I gave up because of the early nineties recession and moved to Brighton. I have been attending illustration seminars in London and Loughborough and discovering the new changes that an illustrator needs to know today. Computers and emailing are now important to know about.
I would also like to do more linocut printing, photography portraiture, writing and artist books.
My other interests are reading personal development books which I find very positive and uplifting. They keep my spirits up. I find when I get stressed they make sense. I also like watching romantic comedies.
I don't think my interests influence my work. They certainly keep me calm and cheery. Peace of mind would help in my artistic life. I tend to worry a great deal and I think it’s an unnecessary evil which gets in the way of getting on with things.
