Having completed college I set up studio wherever I
could. I returned to watercolour, which, for some reason,
had been a frowned-upon medium whilst I was at college.
I painted a lot and made substantial progress that I
hadn’t managed at college.
In 1985 my paintings were first accepted by Hugh Clairmonte
at Clairmonte Galleries. They were popular and sold
quickly but I did not aim to make a full living from
painting until ten years later.
Earning a living from painting was never my first intention
but that’s one thing I do manage to do. Creating
a painting, or any work of artistic expression gives
me an unequalled sense of satisfaction and a feeling
that life can be made bearable.
With my current exhibition, the intention is to exhibit
thirty new paintings and some silkscreen prints. This
exhibition features oils as well as watercolours.
The work in the show expresses my interest in light
and colour, reflected and refracted, through water,
across buildings, through sky and sea.
