Fortunately, Newhaven was bursting with artists of
great value. All it needed was an organised trail to
show art lovers and collectors. The Newhaven Arts ethos
also supported exhibition space for amateur enthusiasts.
Collectively it made for a great day out and gave visitors
the chance discover more about Newhaven, its history
and beautiful seaside location.
Attendance exceeded all expectations and the work exhibited,
with the likes of Harold Mockford and Victor Stuart
Graham and his driftwood boats sold well and received
critical acclaim.
Visitors also found that Newhaven is actually much closer
to Brighton than they thought. It has a sandy beach
and harbour and, if you look closely, a good choice
of pubs and restaurants. Two of the best are both by
the waterside where visitors can sit in the sunshine
wave to the ferry as it sails past.
