The trail begins with Emily Scriven, whose enamelled
bowls, jewellery and pictures show alongside watercolours
and raku pottery. The trail then leads round to The
Chapel Arts Centre and on to House of Colour where Sophie
Mahir will be showing her new works along with mosaics,
handbags and tapestries.
There are ten venues which extend up to South Heighton,
where Chris Lewis’s coveted wood fired stoneware
pots show alongside Ursula Mommens and Oliver Dawson’s
work. Uphill from Chris is The Old Forge where visitors
can end the trail by viewing the work of eighteen fabulous
artists and craftspeople, including Christian Funnell,
who exhibits new sculpture this year. Teas and access
to the downs for walks and bike rides make it the perfect
end to the Newhaven trail.
In the next weeks we hope that art lovers will flood
to Newhaven. The Ark sells great food and overlooks
the water. After buying fish for your supper next door,
visit the beach, watch the sunset over the harbour arm
and wave as the ferry goes past.
Newhaven has definitely arrived.
