I
went to Art College at Eastbourne when I was seventeen,
straight from school. This was a big mistake as I had
no idea what I wanted to do. I had originally wanted to
go to Drama College but the careers advisor at the time
said there was no chance of a grant. The family were not
financially able to support me, so that was that. Art
College was second best which was probably why I dropped
out in my second year.
After various jobs I joined the Brighton Cabaret band
‘The Liquorice Allsorts’ and had a fabulous
few years touring and performing with them. We did quick
change pop impersonations…one of mine was an impersonation
of Rod Stewart with a large foam willy stuffed down my
lycra leggings!
My first artistic endeavour was probably drawing models
from catalogues and progressing to illustrations from
‘Jackie’ comics in the 70 ‘s……the
influence can still be seen!
I paint because it’s who I am - before I started
painting I had these enormous build-ups of energy and
I’d be really loud and raucous (ok, I know I probably
still am to an extent , but believe me - not like I was!
