During the Open ‘House’ you will pass down
our hall of images into our main room displaying flowers
in pastel and photographs of all kinds. Then there is
our ‘Greek Toilet’ (not a hole in the floor
but a display of images from travels abroad) - in our
bathroom! Our South-facing and hopefully sunny garden
is fascinating with many found objects and small sculptures
interspersed with fascinating planting and a chance
to be followed around by Sam, the dog! You can sit in
the garden and enjoy a drink and maybe some cake before
visiting the three garden studios - ‘The Chateau’
- Helene’s retreat, full of body forms/figures
in pastels as well as ‘The Brighton Room’
with images from around Brighton and Hove. Finally,
you finish in the ‘Buddha Shed’!
We hope that visitors like some of what we have to offer.
If you want to own any you will find that all of the
artworks are affordable and available framed, or just
mounted. With Tony’s background in design and
publishing we have produced a good selection of our
own cards, some of which are original pastels from Helene
alongside reproductions of our work. There are even
some unique, one-off, never to be repeated original
giclee posters from A4 size up to A1 and beyond!
Putting on an Open House for the first time is an adventure
that fills us both with joy and trepidation. It’s
fun living in an art gallery and allowing others to
have a look around, too. Will anyone come? Will too
many people come at once? Will they like what we are
doing? Are we mad? Does it matter? There’s a lot
to see so come prepared to linger and come again. We
have decided to open from 10.30 until 6 each weekend
of the festival which is a long day - we are one of
the few Open Houses to open its doors so early in the
morning so you could put us near the top of your list
when you are trailing around Hove.
