Helene
Hymans has been passionate about art and beauty
since her early days in East London. She was ready to
go to art college when, at the age of 16 she was involved
in a terrible car crash which led to major surgery and
resulted in the loss of one of her eyes. Due to her
lessened eyesight and the trauma after the crash her
confidence and interest in creating art was put on hold
and she carried on with her ‘normal’ life.
As one does, she married a rock drummer, soon to become
famous with Status Quo and they had two children together.
Since her amiable separation and a new partner - Tony
- her interest in creating art has been rekindled. She
now works solely in pastels, and creates stunning images
of textures, flowers and human figures
Tony Bowall is another
Londoner from the deep South (Lewisham, actually) and
has lived in Brighton for 15 years. He’s been
taking photographs for 25 years and for the past five
years his work has been digital - but his love of film
has returned and he is now working with both. He has
a varied portfolio and is at present fascinated by close-up/macro
and other images of flowers. He likes to find beauty,
humour and the absurd in life. Sam the dog, whom Tony
inherited when he met Helene has been a recent addition
to the portfolio!
Tony has been interested in alternative philosophies
for many years and will be opening the ‘Buddha
Shed’ during the open house where calming images
of Buddhist figures will be shown.
The Happy House is in the Garden Flat (Flat 5) - down
the steps to the left of the main house - at number
22 Third Avenue in Hove. Third Avenue is just opposite
Hove Town Hall.
