From London to Brighton

Photography has been my main passion since I was eight. I love working with film and large format cameras, seeing the result transformed as a transparency or a print to be put on the wall framed - or used in a commercial way for the purposes as advertising and design.
I first started as an assistant working with still-life and very quickly realised that studio set-ups, lighting and attention to detail were my main interest. This has been the key to a successful career. Working with still-life subjects has bought an enormous amount of pleasure into my life - at times it has given me the space to meditate and lose myself through the lens, immersed in soundtracks from favourite films, whilst creating a personal portrait of nature. It also brings together a multitude of interesting people to work with.
If I am honest, I get the biggest thrill from knowing one of my images adorns someone’s wall at home or in their work space - a piece of 'art' more respected than a highly-paid advertising campaign. If I can create a centrepiece for someone, a talking point, an inspirational image or a corner for tranquillity, healing or a place to meditate from - I have achieved my goal and contentment.
Photographing the world of flowers - a beautiful, colourful, fascinating, tranquil perfumed subject for photography - was my first artistic endeavour and this has changed my life's direction. Making this discovery created a passion and with it I created a new style and technique to photograph flowers. The look and content of my portfolio changed overnight!
I decided that in order to make a name for myself in the world of photography I had to specialise in a subject area. So, with the botanical floral route chosen for me, I pursued this style which had been virtually untouched in advertising at that time.
