Being part of an Arts Trail in a church is a very interesting
experience. People come in who haven’t entered
a church for years, and we have great discussions and
comments. Other people come in and enjoy the peace,
privacy and space the church provides for their own
thoughts in between other houses on the trail. Some
come to see Byrne Jones’ stain-glass windows and
stay to explore the sculptural forms.
The advantages of exhibiting on an Arts Trail as opposed
to a gallery, are that you can show works that have
not been created for their marketable value, but are
maybe more experimental, or personal in statement. Also
you get feedback on ideas you have taken chances with.
You really feel that sculpture is a means of communication.
People have got to know us now and look forward to seeing
what has appeared in the church each year. And we look
forward to meeting them again and hearing their views.
