This year members of the British Association of Modern
Mosaics are exhibiting in the garden of 223 Hartington
Road (almost at the top of the hill!). This is the third
year the garden has been open, and it has become apparent
that our regular visitors are lovers of the art of mosaic,
and come to see us for advice, inspiration and to commission
mosaics for their own homes and gardens. Although set
outside, we are able to display pieces suitable for
interior as well as exterior use, as we provide shelter
from the rain, and our small workshop is open so that
you can see work in progress.
The main reason that this is an OPEN GARDEN rather than
an OPEN HOUSE is because the man of the house was anxious
about unknown quantities of people traipsing through
the house, particularly on a Sunday, definitely a day
of rest for him. Nevertheless, he is enthusiastic about
his raised vegetable beds and is willing to discuss
these at length with our visitors. Also, because the
workshop is in the garden, our resident mosaic artist
can carry on working and demonstrating her craft throughout
the day.
