Then, after many years of creative nothingness, came
a moment of inspiration. I happened across an episode
of ‘Faking It’ on TV one evening and the
supposedly untalented and untrained ‘would be’
artist managed to get away with it. Not only did he
get away with it, he did very nicely out of his creations
too. So, I reasoned that if he could do it, then with
the smattering of talent that I have, so can I. After
all, who needs qualifications and Art Degrees when you
have determination, self-belief and desire? And being
a product of the Punk generation, the attitude still
stands firm - stuff the rules, just do it.
This attitude also coincided with reaching a particular
age in life, that age where one looks back on previous
achievements and reflects… and upon reflection
it was true to say that there wasn’t an awful
lot looking back at me. I then had to consider what
lay ahead. Not a lot, it seemed.
