So, five o’clock Sunday eventually arrived and everyone turned up to ‘break camp’. It was all a little strange getting my house back to normal. It looks very empty and very clean and is now awaiting the return of tons of junk stored upstairs.
So what do I think about this Open House experience?
I have enjoyed it immensely. It’s a little like hosting a six hour party every Saturday and Sunday. It is fun and exhausting. It takes a massive amount of preparation to look effortless and I have met lots of really nice people.
I was very sad Peter Nott didn’t sell any of his work. We talked a little about it when he picked up his paintings and he was, as always, very philosophical.
I was very happy with the cakes I made. The whole experience gave me the opportunity to try out new recipes, to the seeming delight of the people eating at my house. I was heaped with praise which is always welcome, though I am, as yet, not in the same league as my friend Bills’ house who needed a minimum of ten cakes per weekend - my average was five.
