The site has generated
a surprising numbers of orders and bespoke commissions
from private clients and galleries across the UK, and
has even attracted buyers in Jersey, Los Angeles and Japan.
Interestingly, many of the orders and enquiries have been
from clients who have never heard of our ‘Yellow
House’ exhibitions. As we have only done a small
amount of advertising, ninety-nine percent of which has
been local, we have been delighted with the response and
this is testament to the internet now being an established
medium for buying and commissioning art.
It is extremely positive to see all of the Open Houses
starting to work together at last, and the recently formed
AOH (Artists Open Houses), Liquid 6’s www.openhouseonline.co.uk
and our own website are, I am sure, only the beginning
of how the internet can be used to promote what we do.
The internet is a rich source of information and opportunity
but it will, of course, never replace the experience of
seeing a piece of art work in the flesh, where the purchase
of a piece is often accompanied by meeting the artist
and where the scale and description do not need to be
explained.
On second thoughts, picture the day when we can all have
an on-line live tour around an Open House, view the artwork
being displayed and negotiate a deal with the artist over
a web-cam. Who was it that said, “Never say never”?
