Appendage is both a gallery
and a shop selling work by Brighton makers, British designers and
occasionally artists from further afield. We have been established
for eighteen years, have a strong identity and are selective in
our choices.
Vibrant colour, pattern and texture are key elements
of the work chosen. They include jewellery, textile, ceramics,
mosaic, glass hangings, felt, embroidery, knitwear, print and collage.
Emphasis is given to different media throughout the year although
some ranges are stocked continuously. We often focus on a particular
artists’ work,
showing it for a limited period only.
Throughout the Festival we
will have new work from most of our makers. Our jewellers use a
broad range of materials to create their unique collections and
includes:
Sophisticated, hand-made felt pieces in beautiful colours
by Karin Wagner;
Silver jewellery inspired by nature from Sally
Wilcox;
Eclectic button necklaces by Sarah Ridges;
Opulent Velvet rose necklaces
by Jan Cooper.
We have several ceramic ranges including work by
Ken Eardley and Mary Rose Young.
Lisa Katzenstein’s painterly florals in vibrant colours
decorate her cone vases. Eryka Issak’s hangings, using organic
copper shapes fused between glass are a much-loved Appendage classic.
Rachel
Coleman’s seagull collages capture the tyrannical
birds, so much a part of the Brighton landscape.
Sam Stas has a
range of Felt egg and Tea Cosies decorated in her quirky, figurative
style.
Louise Traill’s fairy lights are spectacular in their
detail and colour.
Anna Tilson’s stunning mosaic mirrors combine
vintage crockery and tile. There is a range of smaller items.
Everything in the shop
is an expression of the Maker’s personaility
and style and is individual and innovative. The range of prices
is equally diverse making it possible to treat yourself or a friend,
or buy a special piece that will give you lasting pleasure.
