Absent friends... sniff

Well, it's not really as sad as all that. Our Open House Virgin, Christina Ure, is taking a well earned break this week and will return next. We do let the staff take holidays, you know!
It's been a week of tweaks and chasing articles this week. If you're an artist or an open house owner remember, you can have a free article just like the ones below. That's why this site was invented.

So, when is software sexy?
Never, if you have a healthy lifestyle and get out enough but more often than is good for you if, like us, you don't. So, what's got us more excited than a date with either Cameron Diaz or George Clooney?
Our new Venue Search software, that's what. Find everything you want in the 2006 open houses.
Search by artist name, search by trail. Not only that but if you want to find all the houses that are exhibiting a specific media you can do that, too.

but that's not all:
When you've found the houses showing the media you want, click a button to have a map printed out with all your requested houses circled and all the details printed too. Try it by clicking here.

And don't forget our podcasts. Find out more about those by clicking here.

Remember, Open House Online updates its content every Wednesday
so pop back and read the new articles then

Serena Sussex - Evolution

This is one we've been looking forward to doing since we launched the site last year. Brighton Artist of the Year 2005, Serena Sussex joins our editorial team in a specially commissioned series of articles following the evolution of a new piece of work to be unveiled at this year's Brighton Festival.
Over the next few weeks Serena will tell us how a trip to South Africa inspired the series of paintings that she will be exhibiting at her home this year.
Through diaries and a photo journal of her trip we will see and read about the landscape and events that inspired her to create the paintings you will see in May. You will also see photographs of a specific work 'Lion's Head' at various stages, from its inception through to the final piece. That painting will then be available to view in Serena's home throughout the Festival.
This is a unique opportunity for you to follow a highly regarded and well established artist on the trip that inspired her new paintings and the to follow the evolution of a specific work from start to finish.

Open Houses or how I gave up worrying about exhibiting and learned to love my home

In the second part of his article about Open Houses, Bill Black talks about who to talk to, where to go and what to do when that inspirational moment strikes as you stand in another artists' Open House and think - 'Hang on, I can do that'.
As with other defining moments in history, the execution of that seemingly brilliant idea can prove to be slightly more difficult than you imagined.
Fear not, brave soul! Our boy Bill will guide you through the myriad different ways you can get from 'I can do that' to welcoming the public into your home. There are lots of friendly people waiting to help you and here's where you'll find out how to get in touch with them.
