Why are
there several different types of the same thing - i.e.
Painting, Oil Painting, Watercolour Painting, etc?
It's done that way to give you more specific choices. The
way our database is structured, if you click on 'Painting'
you will see a list of ALL painters (not media specific).
However, if your passion is for oils only, you can select
that, too. We felt it best to give visitors the widest and
most detailed selection we could.
Why can I
only print out two maps at a time?
This is done simply to keep download sizes from getting
too big. Although the vast majority of people accessing this
site will be doing so via broadband we have to allow for
people who do not. Because the information on our maps
is generated 'on-the-fly' - dependant on what media you have
selected and how many artists are showing in that area -
the map download can vary between 1-3mb. No problem if you
have broadband but a considerable wait if you are on a 56k
modem.
I have a 56k modem and it still takes
a long time - what can I do?
You can try only downloading one map. If you still have
probelms, try reducing the number of media you select. Failing
that, I think it might be time to go for that braodband connection
you've been promising yourself.
I’m having trouble using your maps. I’m looking
at them on an Apple Mac running Internet Explorer 5. What’s
the problem?
The problem lies with Internet Explorer on the Mac. This
is a known issue, so much so that even Microsoft recommend
that Mac users change their browser to Safari. Click the
link below to see the official Microsoft announcement here
It was something our programmers identified early on and
would have meant using non-standards compliant javascript
to overcome. This would have caused us more problems with
users of other browsers so it's really a case of accommodating
the code to the majority of users. You are probably best
switching to Safari as both Apple and Microsoft recommend
it.
