My sculpture is
mostly centred on the human form and portraiture has been
a principal interest. On meeting with a model, I like to
assess their personality from the way they speak and move.
Then they can relax into a position natural to their own
character, which I find is usually the most natural pose
and the most revealing of their personality. Anyone can sit,
and older people can exude a wisdom they may be unaware of.
This can be very exciting and inspirational.
I like my sculptures to have a feeling of movement and a
purpose and dignity, almost to have their own lives. I want
emotions to resonate out of clay. My finished pieces are
rough surfaced with an ancient, primeval, feel about them.
I work intuitively and quickly, as if I am the sculptress,
yet forming with a natural force.
