I work primarily
with a white stoneware body and formulate my own glazes which
are fired to 1300 degrees in a gas kiln. Being trained as
a production potter with New Zealander Kim Morgan, I have
always produced a large and varied range of hand-thrown pots.
Until recently, functional-ware has been fundamental to my
work, however, over time as my practical skills and concepts
have evolved I have begun to produce some rather more whimsical
pieces appreciable purely on an aesthetic level.
I have recently returned from a period as Artist in Residence
at the Red Star Studios in Kansas City which gave me the
opportunity to share ideas and experiment with new forms
and glazes. I was also able to run a number of workshops
alongside the Red Star owner, Stephen Hill, who is a regular
contributor to the US version of Ceramic Review.
For the future, I hope to exhibit and build up a network
of contacts in both the UK and France and my work is continually
on display at my studio in Jersey . I will pursue further
opportunities for Artist in Residence positions in the United
States as this is a way of broadening my experience and sharing
ceramic ideas and challenges with other potters, something
which is limited in Jersey .
