However, the advantages
of exhibiting from home are the relaxed feeling (hopefully)
once you get people in your house; the disadvantage is getting
them there in the first place.
For other exhibiting artists the benefits are lower costs,
a friendly atmosphere, back-up, refreshments and loos...
In order to be successful an open house needs a number
of different exhibitors, friendly atmosphere, somewhere to
chat and support such as Kemptown Artists group, this website
and as much publicity as possible!
I can vouch from experience that publicity is very important.
When I tried to go it alone in December, I spent about £400
on advertising, £400 on flyers and the only person
who bought from me was a neighbour 5 doors away.
Nearly all
the other sales were by word of mouth.
