2006 will be the
third year I have hosted an Artists Open House. This curious
compulsion started as a wheeze and has now grown into a neurosis.
The first year I was clueless and used the experience as
an excuse for a party. I was the sole exhibitor and was pleasantly
surprised to meet bags of interesting people who took time
to seek me out. Last year I shared the space with other artists.
This year I'm building on that and will have works very different
from mine from Tony Ofori (abstracts), Julien Howells (fine
art graphics) and Brian Lowe (oils and airbrush).
Despite my hairline my own tastes are mid to low brow and
I enjoy brash vibrant accessible work. My own background
is in old fashioned pen and ink. Since moving to the
coast I've given up pen and ink for paints and have in the
words of a colleague 'gone poncy.' I retain a love for out
of fashion cartoonery but have catholic tastes and get a
kick out of loads of stuff. I tend to respond best to figurative
work but can be bowled over by colour or passionate renditions
of anything.
