Open House is a curious
mish mash. It does lay you open to scrutiny and cost but
is always rewarding. Even at its worst you get a chance to
meet people who have just come out of the rain and wouldn't
normally look at art at all. My fondest memories are from
meeting bemused browsers. Many have succinct and cogent views.
I'm not a serious artist in the sense I can sustain prolonged
conversation about abstract concepts and talkative strangers
are just the thing to brighten a quiet May weekend. It is
a bind sometimes staying in when it's lovely outside and
I regret not seeing other people's houses. I've only ever
been to one.
