We set
off purposely to arrive at the top one and a half hours before
sunset so that I could see the beautiful light and colours
changing before my eyes. This change in light altered my
perception of the whole mountain range, sea and city below.
Lions
Head is such a vast mountain, much bigger in scale to anything
I had already seen but at the same time, much more accessible.
As such, it was easier to study than other locations I have
painted and this accessibility provided more scope for interpretation.
With the vast, modern city sprawled out at the foot of the
mountain in perfect contrast to this giant of nature, the
ease and availability of different views and the stunning
sunsets there, it would be difficult for any painter to resist.
