The event was scheduled
to take place on Sunday 25th September. I had to arrive at
Trafalgar Square at 9am to sign in. All the artists were
placed under big tents set up outside the National Gallery
in London.
Painting started at 10am and had to finish by 4pm,
ready for the live broadcast on BBC1 at 5.45pm for one hour.
We
where given a colour photocopy of piece we were expected
to paint. It was blown up to the actual size of the finished
piece required to match the canvas so that we could paint
an exact replica for our section.
We used quick-drying acrylic
paint. I started with a layer of yellow paint on the canvas
and let it dry for 15 minutes. Then I painted the main image
over the yellow and scratched out parts of the paint to reveal
the undercoat.
