Art Organic, 15 Ditchling Rise

Next, I leg it down the rain-sodden road to Art Organic, the house of the well established artist Gill Orsman . I almost get the house wrong, due to proud bunting hanging outside the studio next door. The jeweller on site, Becki Reed, was very friendly , explaining her work, pointing out the details, how it’s made and various facts. I also helped test the durability of her work, as I (accidentally, I hasten to add) knocked a piece off the table. As a testament to the high build quality, or the softness of laminated flooring, it survived unscathed, unlike my dignity. Around the rest of the room, hands firmly in pockets, I saw very colourful ceramics by Vanessa Fowler, the striking, vibrant flowers of Gill Orsman and the good but baffling textile wall hanging of Alison Chesman.

Next up was Art Organic. The first thing you saw as you came in was Penny Collier’s attractive stained glass. She did them in great detail and there were two of these beautiful fairies, I would have taken one home but sadly we had to leave them. We then went into the front room which had some charming jewellery in it. Someone came and talked to us and told us all about the stones and where they had came from. We then saw Elizabeth Hellman's work. She did very detailed pictures of flowers which were lovely to look at. Again something I could’ve taken home with me. Then we spotted Gill Orsman's work which was amazing. She had such a good use of bold colours and a way of presenting them on a canvas which made them look very eye-catching. Then the anagram works caught my eye. Now I’m not saying it’s not art but it was just a collection of words put on canvas. I’ve done anagrams at school and I find them dull. The use of bright colours with white text made them very eye-catching but not something I would want on my wall. Vanessa Flower ’s work then caught my eye. She makes modern and fresh ceramics which are quite random but sometimes I like that sort of thing and this was one of those times. Next was Karen Peck who’s a textile artist. She did some nice jewellery bags and purses but she did some masks. They where nice and must have taken a long time to make but they were a bit pricey. I don’t know if the fabric was expensive but they were still very good.
