This background as a designer
and stylist has influenced my work tremendously, as have
the many subsequent years I spent producing paint effects
for interiors, furniture and photographic sets. All this
together with my love of antique china and fabrics, along
with simple well used domestic objects has led to my present
still life style. These ‘props’ acquired from
junk shops and antique markets are displayed around my house,
some used regularly, others waiting for their turn. Visitors
often notice items from my paintings on a shelf or table.
I work with a great emphasis on light, colour and composition,
I love conveying the weight and texture of fruit and vegetables,
creating a classic and sensuous still life feel. Textures,
shapes and colours are harmoniously combined to elevate the
mere domestic to iconic status. I always paint from life,
having to do the fruit first as they invariably wrinkle and
go mouldy quite quickly.
